Obituary of Angelo N. Verlingo
Please share a memory of Angelo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Verlingo, Angelo Pickles, 81, died on Saturday, October 27, 2012. Mr. Verlingo was born in Jersey City and has been a resident of North Arlington for over 46 years. He graduated from Dickinson High School of Jersey City in 1948, where he was a varsity basketball athlete and Quaterback of the Thunderjets. He earned the infamous nickname of Pickles from his love of pickles. The story goes that when his friends would go and buy a candy bar, Angelo would instead buy a pickle! Angelo worked for Safeway Stores in Kearny. At the age of 62, he became a Court Clerk at the Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey. He loved his job and worked until his retirement at 80 years old. Pickles loved to bet the horses at the Meadowlands and other tracks around the Tri-State Area, sharing his knowledge with all those who cared to listen. It truly was his passion. Angelo is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rosemarie (nee Guaimano) Verlingo, by his loving children, Michele, Michael and Cathy Ann, by his grandchildren, Bernard, Kristen, Nicholas, David Angelo and by his great-grandson, Colin James. He is also survived by his sister, Jenny Noble and his brother, Michael Verlingo as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Nazare Memorial Home, Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 10AM.
