Obituary of Laura J. Sanita

On September 11, 2022, Laura Julia Sanita (Lala) passed away in her sleep at age 77 after seven difficult days in the hospital. Laura's greatest love was her family. A loving wife to Angelo for 55 years, the proud mother of Lorena and Angela, and affectionate grandmother to Lina, Omar, Claudio Jr., and Lorenzo. Although biologically, Laura had two daughters and four grandchildren, many considered her a second mom & grandma. Laura had a huge heart. She and her husband helped many people in need and housed many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Laura never hesitated to make everyone in her home feel welcome. She cooked delicious meals, washed and ironed her "adopted kids" clothes, would often whip up a feast for unexpected guests, and organized family and friends get-togethers while working a full-time job at Automatic Switch & Co. and caring for her family. Claudio, her son-in-law, would often say to his children, "they don't make them like Abuelita anymore."

Laura was born in Arica, Chile, on April 23, 1945, to Guillermo Homero González Providel & Laura Julia Faúndez Meza. During her childhood, she traveled and lived in many cities with her siblings, Jose (Pepe), Guillermo, and Cristina, due to her father's high rank in the Chilean Armed Forces.

Laura settled in Valparaíso, Chile, where she attended No. 41 Brasil, an all-girls high school; she graduated with honors and received a certificate for best student. With a desire to help the community, she opted to move to Santiago, Chile, to study in the Salesianos to become a nun. Right before finishing this path, Laura met her husband Angelo and returned to Valparaíso, where they wed on March 10, 1967. She continued her vocation to help others, studied nursing and education, and worked in the Hospital de Niños en Valparaíso, helping sick children. Laura was a hero to many without speaking of her good deeds. Her brothers share that during her tenure at the hospital, she was presented the heroine award, as she helped many children to safety when an earthquake hit the hospital unexpectadly.

When her husband, Angelo, left Chile in 1976, Laura dedicated herself to her daughters and continued helping others by becoming a Sunday school teacher and organizing community events. An avid reader with creative artistic talent, she often made her nieces and daughters cloth, including their communion dresses. With an adventorous spirit, she traveled twice to the United States before joining her husband and settling here in search of a better life in 1981 with her daughters. Laura worked in a few places to ensure her daughters had a quality education. She worked as a seamtress in Hoboken, NJ, a presser at Skyway Cleaners, and retired from ASCO after 17 years.

She is survived by her husband Angelo Sanita, their daughters Lorena & Angela, her son-in-law Claudio, and her four grandchildren: Lina, Omar, Claudio Jr, & Lorenzo. Her surviving siblings are Pepe & Guillermo, her sister in laws, brother in laws, and multiple nieces & nephews. 

Welcoming her in heaven is her parents, Guillermo and Laura, friends & relatives .

What a legacy, what a life. I invite each of you to keep our mom, grandma, and wife, Laura, alive in your hearts. Knowing Laura is knowing she's in heaven asking for tesito! We are blessed and thankful for the time we had with her.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 6 - 8PM.  All will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 10am then to Our Lady Queen of Peace, North Arlington, where at 11am a funeral mass will be offered.  Interment to follow, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington  You may express condolences by using our tribute wall.     

El 11 de septiembre de 2022, Laura Julia Sanita (Lala) falleció mientras dormía a los 77 años después de siete días difíciles en el hospital. El mayor amor de Laura era su familia. Una amada esposa de Angelo durante 55 años, la orgullosa madre de Lorena y Angela, y cariñosa abuelita de: Lina, Omar, Claudio Jr. y Lorenzo. Aunque biológicamente, Laura tenía dos hijas y cuatro nietos, muchos la consideraban una segunda mamá y abuela. Laura tenía un corazón enorme. Ella y su esposo ayudaron a muchas personas necesitadas y albergaron a muchos sobrinos y amigos.

Laura nunca dudó en hacer que todos en su casa se sintieran bienvenidos. cocinaba deliciosas comidas, lavaba y planchaba la ropa de sus "niños adoptivos", a menudo preparaba un festín para invitados inesperados y organizaba reuniones familiares y de amigos mientras trabajaba tiempo completo en Automatic Switch & Co.  Claudio, su yerno, solía decirles a sus hijos: "Ya no las hacen como Abuelita".

Laura nació en Arica, Chile, el 23 de abril de 1945, hija de Guillermo Homero González Providel y Laura Julia Faundez Meza. Durante su infancia viajó y vivió en muchas ciudades con sus hermanos José (Pepe), Guillermo y Cristina, por la profesión de su padre como Marino Sub Oficial de la Armada Chilena. 

Laura se instaló en Valparaíso, Chile, donde asistió a la escuela secundaria para niñas No. 41 Brasil; se graduó con honores y recibió un certificado como mejor estudiante. Con el deseo de ayudar a la comunidad, optó por mudarse a Santiago de Chile, a estudiar en los Salesianos para convertirse en monja. Justo antes de terminar este camino, Laura conoció a su esposo Angelo y regresó a Valparaíso, donde se casaron el 10 de marzo de 1967. Continuó su vocación de ayudar a los demás, estudió enfermería y educación.  Trabajó en el hospital de Niños en Valparaíso, cuidando a los niños enfermos. Laura fue una heroína para muchos sin hablar de sus buenas obras. Sus hermanos comparten que durante su permanencia en el hospital, se le otorgó el premio a la heroína, ya que ayudó a muchos niños a ponerse a salvo cuando un terremoto golpeó el hospital inesperadamente.

Cuando su esposo, Angelo, se fue de Chile en 1976, Laura se dedicó a sus hijas y continuó ayudando a otros convirtiéndose en profesora de catecismo y organizando eventos comunitarios. Ávida lectora con talento artístico creativo, a menudo confeccionaba trajes o vestidos para sus sobrinas e hijas incluso sus vestidos de comunión. Con espíritu aventurero, viajó dos veces a Estados Unidos antes de reunirse con su esposo y radicarse aquí en busca de una mejor vida en 1981 con sus hijas. Laura trabajó en algunos lugares para asegurar que sus hijas tuvieran una buena educación. Trabajó como costurera en Hoboken, NJ, planchadora en Skyway Cleaners y se retiró de A.S.C.O después de 17 años.

Le sobreviven su esposo Angelo Sanita, sus hijas Lorena y Angela, su yerno Claudio y sus cuatro nietos: Lina, Omar, Claudio Jr y Lorenzo. Sus hermanos Pepe & Guillermo, cuñados y sobrinos.

Qué legado, que vida. Invito a cada uno de ustedes a mantener vivo en sus corazones a nuestra mamita, abuelita y esposa  Laura. ¡Conocer a Laura es saber que está en el cielo pidiendo tecito! Estamos bendecidos y agradecidos por el tiempo que pasamos con ella. Serás profundamente extrañada.
