Obituary of Rosemary McLaughlin
Rosemary (nee Reid) McLaughlin, 85, of Lyndhurst, passed from this life into her Heavenly home on Good Friday, April 7, 2023, surrounded by the love and care of her children and grandchildren who cherished her with all their hearts.
Rosemary was born on October 31, 1937 in Lyndhurst to John and Marguerite (nee Roseman) Reid. She attended St. Mary’s School in Rutherford where she developed a deep faith that went with her, her entire life.
Rosemary married the love of her life, Bart McLaughlin, on July 5, 1958 in Rutherford NJ. They shared 64 years of marriage before Bart’s passing in September 2022. Together they raised 7 children.
She attended Fairleigh Dickinson College to obtain a certificate in clerical duties in 1960. She furthered her studies in Computer Science at Passaic County Community College, graduated 1994.
Rosemary worked many temporary jobs before she began her career at Hoffman LaRoche. She then obtained a career in patient registration with Bergen Pines/Bergen Regional Medical Center. She retired in 2011 to spend more time with family and friends, gardening, road trips, motorcycle runs to Americade in Lake George and many other adventures.
The best job Rosemary ever accomplished was being a loyal devoted wife and a loving supportive mother to her children. She raised her children to know the Lord and helped them develop their own faith. She also opened her home to family members when needed and was a resourceful mentor, offering advice and help in raising her grandchildren.
Rosemary loved flowers and never missed a spring to plant her garden. She maintained the most beautiful roses and lilac bushes, arranging beautiful bouquets that were shared with many. She loved the ocean and shared that love with her children. She had many hobbies she enjoyed with her family. Recently, she began a Tuesday bingo night with her granddaughters that evolved into a game, painting, crafts, cooking, etc. night.
Rosemary is survived by her 7 children, Donna Lee McLaughlin-Noonan and her husband Jim, Bart John McLaughlin, Jane Anne McLaughlin, Kimberly Sue Whisman and her husband Scott, Mary Ellen Sverko and her husband Marcus, Christopher McLaughlin, and Rosemary McLaughlin-Gizzo and her husband James. Her 26 grandchildren and 18 great-children with one more on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Reid, sister-in-law Barbara Drummer, brother-in-law John “Jack” McLaughlin, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband and man of her dreams, Bart McLaughlin, her loving daughter-in-law LuAnn Olivari-McLaughlin, and is more than likely holding her great-grandson Billy. Also proceeded in death by her siblings: Ethel, Richard, Roberta, George, Johnny, Charles, and Carol.
Rosemary was loved beyond measure. Her door was always open and all were welcome. You could always count on a pot of coffee and a kettle on the stove the minute you walked through the door. While visiting, she would always find or make some sweet treat to enjoy. Her family knew her as the strongest, most beautiful woman they knew. They are blessed for being a part of her. Faith, family, friends, and neighbors were the most important areas of her life. She will be missed forever by those she touched. Her legacy will be the faith and love of the Lord passed down to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the generations to come.
