Thank you for all the sacrifices and hard work. Thank you for teaching us faith and modeling respect, honesty, strength, honor, quiet elegance, independence, and the importance of an education. Thank you for pushing me to learn to drive when I did not want to. Thank you for allowing me to accompany you and Papi to Israel and Petra. I’m thankful for our time together in our countless trips up and down the East coast and Puerto Rico. I relish in the memories.

“My Mother’s Hands”, written for Mother’s Day 1995:
My mother’s hands look just like mine…
I realized not too long ago, as I drove home from work, one day: the shape of the fingers, the tilt of the tips, even down to how dry my hands get.
My hands look just like my mother’s hands.
And as I look at them, I see my mother’s beautiful face:
Her toothy smile;
Her forehead, furrowing with worry, or resolute strength.
I see her eyes with smiles behind them; sometimes with tears;
Always with faith.
I see her lipstick on her front teeth; her hair, a little grayer than the last time I saw her…
And I look at my hands again, and I love her all the more.
Today, 3000 miles away, I miss my mother’s hands.

Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs, the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who LOVE YOU no matter what. Mrs. Marin was an amazing woman and a rare soul. I look back and think of all the wonderful memories we have shared together and as a second family. She was one of a kind and will be truly missed.

My memories of Ada date back 44 years. At the time I didn’t know that my first boss would become my long time friend.
I was a senior in High School when I started working at Marin Pharmacy. As the years went by and we got to know each other better, I realized her kind, humble and caring nature.
We had many rich, and deep conversations.When my beloved mom passed, she would often call me and be my confidant. She would give me advice. Many of our phone conversations were about family, religion, and laughable memories.When it was time to hang up,I would say, “Cuídate, que de los buenos quedamos pocos.” I can honestly say that Ada W. Marin lived up to that well known Cuban idiom.
My friend will always live in my memories!

I thank God for the many beautiful memories that we have of Tio Yeyo and Tia Ada. I remember they came to our wedding, we always did our best to visit them in NJ We loved to come to the family celebrations at their home with the Marin Family, especially when a family member was visiting from Cuba. I loved how attentive was Tia Ada when we visit her home. We will miss you both so dearly!!!
