Obituary of Grace Dacchille

Grace Dacchille nee Battista, 93, was borne home to the Father on angel’s wings Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was the daughter of Rocco Battista and Rosa Tursellino Battisa, born in Palo del Colle, Bari, Italy in 1930. She apprenticed as a seamstress and became a Master Tailor. She married her childhood sweetheart Vito in 1954. Shortly thereafter she came to the United States. Although for many years she worked in the sewing industry, her proudest accomplishments were that of homemaker, loving wife and devoted mother. She never tired of cutting and designing clothing patterns for friends and family. She was rivaled by few in her culinary skills, combining old world dishes with Italian-American cuisine - always ready to share her kitchen’s bounty with others. There was nothing more important in her life than her family. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were her greatest joy. She maintained a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and her rosary beads were rarely out of sight, thus instilling a deep sense of faith to her loved ones. Grace was predeceased by her husband Vito with whom she shared a marital life for over 66 years. She is survived by her sons Joseph and Margaret and Rocco and Gina; by her grandchildren, Cristina and Jeremy Freeman, Joseph and Christine and Philip and her great grandchildren, Joseph Andrew, Samuel Robert and Olivia Grace.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Nazare Memorial Home Inc., 403 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Thursday, February1, 2024 from 4 to 8 PM.  All will gather at the funeral home on Friday, February 2nd at 12 Noon, then to Sacred Heart Church, where at 1 PM a Funeral Mass will be offered.  Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Grace's memory to St. Jude Children's Reseach Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142.
